Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28: 19-20

The Bible tells that the existence of the church is for the glory of God. The church is a Body made in His image, sent on His mission, to be to His glory!

God was on a mission from Genesis to Revelation. His mission is to save the souls. Since Adam and Eve’s fall, God was on that mission. God picked Abraham. He’d bless Abraham and descendant, Israel, and through them to bless all nations. Israel failed the mission. God then sent his son. Jesus faithfully carried out the mission. He died on the cross to save us from sins. He ascended to heaven and gave us the mission to be the witness for him to the ends of the earth. One day, he’ll come back and completely finish the mission. Since God is on this mission, we need to join Him in this mission.

People in the missional church do pray and give so that others may go and serve; yet for them missions are more centered in “being and doing” than “sending and supporting.” The missional church understands that although some may be supported as those sent to other locations, every member of the church is “sent.” Mission is therefore participative rather than simply representative. In this sense, every member is a missionary. Missions are not perceived as one expression of the missional church, but as the essence of the church.

To become a missionary church, we are working towards promoting a shift in three mindset and action patterns.
Shift#1: from internal to external in terms of ministry focus
Shift #2: from program development to people development
Shift #3: from church-based to kingdom-based in terms of leadership agenda

About Us

Our History

Lake East Christian Church officially held Sunday services in October 1993. Before its establishment, Elder Shen and nearly ten brothers and sisters prayed and sought together for nearly a year. Since 1989, many Chinese-speaking families came this area. Due to urban development, most of them gradually settled in the east side of Lake Washington. God has given us a vision and a mission. God loves the world and wants us to establish a Chinese-speaking church in the vast east side areas of Kirkland, Redmond, Bellevue, Bothell, Woodinville, and Issaquah. God has also given us a heart to care for the Chinese immigrants and a great mission to preach the gospel. We look forward to witnessing the Lord’s love through the fellowship of believers, Bible study, worship, and fellowship. In this corrupted era, we hope to be like a bright light shining brightly. We are convinced that God’s love can protect us, our children, relatives, friends and other Chinese immigrants, and we can walk on a bright and holy road of life. The church’s Sunday worship service was held in the morning, so we rented the school site. At the beginning, there were only about 30 people and a few children. Three years later, there were nearly 100 people.

In June 1996, we learned that the property where the current church is would be sold for $550,000. At that time, the church had only more than $2,000 in savings. After praying and seeking together in faith, the brothers and sisters donated nearly $170,000 together; this was a seal of faith! With additional money borrowed from brothers and sisters, the property was purchased at $450,000 at the end of 1996. The renovation project was approved by the Kirkland City Government. From January to March 1997, the church spent another $100,000 to renovate the downstairs into classrooms, a cafe and a courtyard. The church held a dedication Sunday service on April 26, 1997, officially beginning God’s mission. Since then, God has provided us financially. The church paid off all loans in 2001 and has a balance. We have all experienced God’s grace and faithfulness, and the obvious work of the Holy Spirit! During this period, many pastors trained us and set up church by-laws. At the same time, many newly moved brothers and sisters found the family of God and learned to love the Lord and others together: to pursue spiritual growth; to be connected with the Head, Christ, (Eph. 4:13-16), and preach the gospel of the Lord; making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20). Many friends who seek the gospel believe in the Lord, were baptized, and become children of God! By 1999, the church had more than 200 members. Due to the increasing number of people in the church and the number of children, we decided to build an additional education building in 2002 to support our children and protect our family. In 2003, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the founding of the church and the completion of the education building with a thanksgiving ceremony! (See the special thanksgiving for the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Lake East Christian Church at the Church Library).

In the church from 2003 to 2023, God sent Pastor Wang Xiaogu and his wife to start English Sunday worship, youth ministry and family, and counseling services (2003-2011). Pastor Stephan Chen and his wife gave training and discipleship training and special lectures (2012 –2016). After that, after the church elders and deacons prayed together, everyone felt that they needed to be trained and grow in their faith; and step up to serve! After four years, several pastors and elders were invited to do training. Although the number of church members was smaller, everyone was able to serve with one heart and faithfulness. In 2019, the church board of directors decided to recruit a pastor. Praise the Lord! After all the processes; under the guidance of God’s grace, Li Pan and his wife joined the church in 2019. In 2021, Li Pan was ordained into a Chinese pastor of the church.

God’s building up of the Lake East Christian Church over the past thirty years has demonstrated that He can make things out of nothing and be full of them. He is the God of blessings and grace. We deeply feel that “The Lord is my shepherd; I will not lack” (Psalm 1:1). He is a loving, faithful, holy, righteous, and gracious God. He is the head of the church, the source of all blessings!

What We Believe

Ours Faith Statement

1. We believe that both Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, and without error in the original manuscripts. They are the ultimate standard for life and faith in the Christian life. They are God’s complete revelation for salvation for all humankind.

2. We believe in the one true God, who is from himself, eternal, infinite, and perfect. He exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, equal in being, honor, and glory.

3. We believe God created the heavens and earth and all things therein and sustains all creation. He created humankind in His own image.

4. We believe the only begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ, who for the love of the humankind came into the world. He was born of the Virgin Mary, conceived by the Holy Spirit, named Jesus, who is both fully God and fully man. He demonstrated the love and life of God through his incarnation, and lived a sinless life, but was crucified on the cross for the sin of the world, died, was buried; he rose from the dead on the third day to complete God’s great work of salvation. And now he has ascended into Heaven and seated at the right hand of God, to be the Mediator between God and man; He will return to the world.

5. We believe the Holy Spirit is one of the three distinct persons of the Trinity; he dwells in the hearts of all believers and bestows power and spiritual gifts to sanctify and empower them to be witnesses of Christ; he unites the universal Church to be one in Christ and calls all people to be reconciled to the Lord through the Gospel. We believe the biblical descriptions of the gifts of the Spirit are for the building up of the church.

6. We believe that because of Adam and Eve’s fallenness, sin, and separation from God, everyone will die once, and after death, a judgment. The only way to salvation is through accepting Christ as the personal Lord and Savior; all who believe in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

7. We believe that all believers belong to God’s church. Christ is the head of the Church; the Church is the Body of Christ; believers mutually participate in one another’s life in this Body and are united to advance the gospel.

8. We believe in the physical resurrection of all mankind, whereby believers will receive eternal life and those who have refused the gift of salvation from God will be eternally punished according to their sins.

9. Baptism and Holy Communion are sacraments of the church, observed in obedience to Christ’s commands.

10. Baptism is the testimony, as a witness before the Lord and all creation, of acceptance of Jesus as one’s personal savior. We practice baptism by immersion and accept other believers regardless of their mode of baptism.

11. Holy Communion is a communal observance, through the use of the bread and the cup, of remembrance of the Lord Jesus’s death, his love as a symbol of covenant with Christ in anticipation of His Second Coming.

Give

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. – 2 Corinthians 9: 6-7
